In an era of clean-living obsession, the effervescent draw of the Far East isn't difficult to comprehend. A cultural melting pot and geographical hub, Singapore invites visitors to devour its heady assault on all senses, whilst simultaneously embracing its status as the immaculate Garden City. Nearby, neighbouring Bali similarly invites travellers to dive into its rich heritage and bask in its unrivalled beachside relaxation and spiritual Zen.

The idyllic combination for those seeking both sides of the travellers' coin – that elusive balance between relaxation and adventure – here EDEN encapsulates the best ways to feed your mind, body and soul in two multi-faceted destinations.

SINGAPORE | FEED YOUR MIND…

Singapore jostles with competing cultural activity to enrich your mind; you simply have to know where to start. Whilst traditionalists may delve into local history at the heralded National Museum of Singapore – a Neoclassical wonder with narrative tracing back to 1887 – modernists might prefer Gallery10, the city's first all-digital space. A chic conversion from a local dining establishment, the crossover of art and technology are cleverly explored in an immersive and multi-disciplinary approach. Yet to be replaced as the firm family favourite, however, the ArtScience Museum beckons, with its lotus-flower fronds and touring blockbuster exhibitions... everything from DreamWorks Animation to Da Vinci. Looking to embrace Singapore's outdoor living with a bohemian edge? Nothing beats the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore's cultural crown jewel, where live concerts, outdoor theatre, film and pop-up workshops are showcased in an ever-changing edifying buffet. Shrouded in an eye-catching durian-shaped building, it's the ultimate bayside chill-out spot for those looking to broaden their horizons.

SINGAPORE | FEED YOUR BODY…

Food and culture are inexplicably linked in Singapore. An endless array of ethnic and fusion gastronomy, from bustling hawker centres to blow-out brunches, it would be near impossible to go hungry. For local delicacies like Hainanese chicken rice, chili crab and Hokkien mee (noodles with pork, prawns or squid), head to hawker complexes Chinatown, Old Airport Road, Maxwell Road or deliciously named Chomp Chomp Centre, which merges unique blends of Chinese, Indian and Malay flavours with Singapore classics. For a more authentic street food vibe, stroll down to secret spot Balestier Road – an emerging area complete with unembellished eateries serving local tastes with Singapore's version of hipster vibes. Michelin-starred highlights are found at sophisticated French fine-dining spot Odette, or Orchard Road's Iggy's evolving fusion of European and Japanese cuisine. There's hearty grill-style home-cooking, at Violet Oon Satay Bar & Grill on Clarke Quay – a bustling waterfront and party hub; while those with unwavering energy and a dedicated sweet tooth should join the after-dark collective (the real Crazy Rich Asians) at 2am:Desert Bar for an acclaimed chocolate praline poprocks cake, or sip classic Old Fashioneds at speak-easy style bar, 28 Hong Kong Street.

SINGAPORE | FEED YOUR SOUL…

No trip to Singapore would be complete without a visit to Gardens by the Bay. A tourist trap and Instagram haven for good reason, get lost in the resplendent flora of the Flower Dome or otherworldly nirvana of the Cloud Forest, complete with mountainous vegetation and misty, roaring waterfall. Home to ever-changing exhibitions of rare natural phenomena, plus a 128-metre aerial Skyway Trail, our tip is to turn off social media and simply bask in uninterrupted moments such as Garden Rhapsody, the bay's nightly light and sound show. Whilst Singapore's famed Botanic Gardens have undoubted draw for horticulturists, head to MacRitchie Reservoir Park for rugged outdoor adventure. A glorious nature reserve housing five scenic hiking trails and TreeTop Walk – a 250-metre suspended aerial bridge across the entire reservoir – look out for native bushland creatures including macaque monkeys, snakes and monitor lizards. For added soul-searching moments, hop into a canoe and saunter down the reservoir without a single care in the world.

BALI | FEED YOUR MIND…

From soaring volcanic mountains to undulating rice paddies, and sacred forests to secret jungle-fringed beaches, Bali leaves a lasting imprint like nowhere else. Whilst most flock to experience the rich cultural tapestry of Ubud, the mesmerising Kercak fire dance of Uluwatu, or the relaxed beachside vibes of Jimbaran Bay (all not to be missed), Bali has boundless sites of hidden historic beauty. Tucked away in Eastern Bali, discover the palatial hillside retreat of Tirta Gangga Royal Water Garden. Adorned by impeccably manicured tropical water gardens and facing an unrivalled backdrop of Mount Agung and the Indian Ocean, delve into the fascinating reign of the Karangasem royal family. For unmatched photo-worthy views of endless rice terraces, however, lesser known Jatiluwih is a must. Nestled at the foothill of picturesque Mount Batukaru, away from the crowds of Southern Bali, highlights here include Batukaru Temple, the Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest and undeniably romantic Tanah Lot Temple. Perched upon a dramatic sea rock formation, located 300 metres offshore, the kaleidoscope of colours surrounding Tanah Lot after dusk are definitely something to write home about.

BALI | FEED YOUR BODY…

Like Singapore, Bali has an abundance of dining options to suit your mood, whether it's a trendy beachside hideaway or a top-tier gastronomic setting. Relatively new to the table, achingly-cool The Slow boutique hotel designed by former fashion designer George Gorrow, tops our list as a new firm favourite. Embracing the bohemian vibes of Canggu and nearby Echo Beach – an area populated by bronzed surfers, super-cool hipsters and city-slickers-come-green-juice drinkers – enjoy cold pressed coffee and cutting-edge sustainable food. For sunset bonfires and Aussie-style island beach fare, there's the equally trendy Sundays Beach Club, a powdery-white refuge accessed solely by funicular from Ungasan Clifftop Resort that embraces beachside relaxation to its core. Amongst the fine-dining scene, CasCades offers teetering table-edge views across the luscious Valley of the Kings, whilst Sardine dominates Seminyak's northern end with relaxed alfresco seafood fare. Topping the list for romance, is Four Seasons Sayan's Rooftop Lotus Pond five-course Balinese dinner, a sole two-person table perched at the foot of a 55-metre footbridge, surrounded by an elliptical lotus pond, wild forest and the cascading Ayung River, ideal for some dedicated alone time.

BALI | FEED YOUR SOUL…

One of the most recognised centres for meditation and spiritual and holistic healing, Bali's options for soul-searching shows no bounds. For something beyond the norm, head to Bali Swing, located 30 minutes outside of Ubud. An adult's playground outlined by soaring canopy swings – think zip-lining meets high ropes – as well as 'bird nest' lookout points facing river and forest, enjoy feelings of weightless relaxation as you swing from tree to tree. With Ayurvedic healing and natural remedies at the core of Balinese spa culture, step out of your noisy headspace by leaping into local spa customs. Seminyak's Prana Spa houses one of the island's largest relaxation centres. Look past the unabashed palatial décor and get lost in indigenous treatments like Shirodara (warm oil poured atop your forehead), hair cream baths, and soothing massage. Sink into a series of detoxifying bathing rituals at tranquil yoga retreat, Fiveelements, head over to Ayana Resort's dedicated thalassotherapy centre, or climb up to Kupu Kupu Barong Villas' treetop spa treatment rooms for mango-oil inspired practises. And if you're looking for island adventures, head to our favourite undiscovered islands of Nusa Penida, Lenbongan & Ceningan, south-east from mainland Bali and home to pristine beaches, rare protected wildlife and unrivalled diving spots.
